Texas builds its own “wall” on the border with Mexico

Texas began building its own "Wall" – huge steel bars – on the border with Mexico, said on Saturday its governor, Republican Greg Abbott, who criticized the federal government for not doing enough to stop clandestine immigration.

"Texas is taking a truly unprecedented step" in the country, Abbott told a news conference, with the construction of "a wall on our border to ensure and safeguard the sovereignty of the United States, as well as that of our own state".

He added that it is a measure "Needed for one reason only: the Biden administration has not done its job"said Abbott from Rio Grande City, in front of a crane and steel bars.

The governor, who has ambitions beyond the borders of his state, denounced the "deadly consequences" of the politics of Democratic President Joe Biden.

"This border wall that you see behind us is a replica of the border wall that President Trump erected. Same material, same concept"added.

The construction of a wall on the border between Mexico and the United States was one of Donald Trump’s main campaign promises in the 2016 presidential race.

During his term (2017-2021), Trump built some sections, but Biden stopped the work.

Abbott assured Fox News that his status was able to move forward "Quick" with construction, as it takes place on land under Texas jurisdiction or owned by landowners "who are fed up with the Biden administration".

The Democratic president receives criticism for his immigration policy on two fronts: the left reproaches him for harshness and the right laxity.
