In July, Elon Musk announced that Tesla’s Supercharger network would be available for other electric cars by the end of the year. At the beginning of this month of November this becomes a reality.
Tesla’s Supercharger Network is available to other drivers. But only in Holland
In an official statement, Tesla has piloted the opening of its Superchargers to other electric cars in the Netherlands. In this area of Europe it is possible to use these chargers with other electric cars, in 10 locations.
“With this pilot project, Dutch non-Tesla electric car drivers can access 10 stations via the Tesla app (version 4.2.3 or higher). Tesla drivers can continue to use these stations as they always have, and we will be closely monitoring each location for congestion and listening to customers about their experiences, ”the statement read.
Tesla reaffirms that its ambition has always been to open up the Supercharger network to non-Tesla vehicles and therefore encourage more drivers to buy electric vehicles. And if more drivers use the Supercharger network, the expansion will also be faster.
“Our goal is to learn and iterate rapidly, while continuing to strongly expand the network, so that we can eventually welcome Tesla and non-Tesla controllers in all Superchargers in the world,” the developer writes.
Superchargers that are open for non-Tesla electric vehicles:
These Superchargers are, at the moment, limited to drivers living in the Netherlands. So if you visit one of these areas with your non-Tesla electric vehicle, you won’t be able to charge it there. But the promise remains that the novelty “will soon be extended to other markets.”
