As you know, many industries have been facing an unprecedented shortage of microchips for several months now. The automotive industry is particularly affected by this situation, and several manufacturers are suffering the consequences. This is the case of Toyota, which has just announced a 40% reduction in its global car production.

And if Tesla may have delivered more than 200,000 vehicles during the first quarter of 2021, the world leader in electric vehicles is not spared by this shortage. Evidenced by many delivery delays, now confirmed by Tesla. On the American version of the manufacturer’s online configurator, delivery times for a Model 3 Autonomie Standard Plus have significantly lengthened. Thus, for an order placed in August 2021, we will have to wait 5 months so that you can put your hands on the steering wheel of the electric sedan.

Tesla is no exception to the microchip shortage

You would have understood it, Tesla also struggles to source components, so much so that delivery delays are now inevitable. Elon Musk, CEO of the American company, himself acknowledged the complexity of the situation on Twitter. “Tesla manufactures cars for export during the first half of each quarter, and for the local market during the second half. As has been publicly revealed, we are currently operating with extreme congestion when it comes to some standard chips in the automotive world. By far the most problematic are Renesas and Bosch ”, he said on the social network.

The Model Y Grande Autonomie is also paying the costs of this shortage, with delivery dates set for December 2021 for the moment. Concerning France, the manufacturer has not yet changed the deadlines, with delivery in September for Model 3 Standard Plus and Performance range. In other words, the French market does not seem affected by these delays, for the moment. As a reminder, Tesla has officially postponed the release of the Cybertruck to 2022. The manufacturer prefers to give priority to the production of the Model Y, whose production is due to start in October 2021 at the Gigafactory in Berlin.
