Terrible results of injecting without testing

Cairo: Two sisters died after taking antibiotic injections without allergy tests in Egypt. Authorities have started an investigation into the incident.

According to Urdu News, 2 sisters lost their lives after taking antibiotic injection without allergy test in the coastal city of Alexandria, Egypt.

The mother approached the doctor who prescribed the medicine, the pharmacist at the pharmacy said that the medicine prescribed by the doctor was not available, and an alternative medicine was prescribed instead. The mother looked for prescription medicine at nearby pharmacies but could not find it.

Later, a woman working at the pharmacy gave the two sisters an antibiotic injection without allergy testing, causing them to become ill and vomit. They were admitted to the hospital where they both died shortly after.

After filing a police report, the public prosecution obtained physical remand of the pharmacist and the woman working at the pharmacy, both of whom are being interrogated while the pharmacy has been sealed.

Mahmoud Fawad, director of the Egyptian Center for Medicines, said that this is not the first incident of its kind, since January 2022 there have been 28 deaths due to negligence.

Mehmood Fawad said that who has the authority to give injections? It should be a doctor’s prerogative to give injections, but doctors leave their patients alone and patients also turn to pharmacies for their convenience.

He said that during the year 2016, the Health Committee of the Parliament was requested to formulate a legal procedure in this regard.
