The epicenter was reported near Mansfield, a rural town in Victoria, 200 kilometers northeast of Melbourne, at a depth of six miles.

The quake was so severe that people took to the streets in panic, prompting authorities to declare an emergency.

The quake was also felt in other major cities of the country, but no casualties have been reported so far.
