Terrible accident in Italy, video goes viral

ROME: An avalanche in northern Italy has killed at least six people and injured eight others.

According to media reports, the incident took place in the Marmolada hills in the Alps in northeastern Italy, where a piece of glacier hit a group hiking in the mountain range, Agra, which crushed at least six people, while Eight were injured.

Rescue officials rushed the injured to a hospital, some of them in critical condition. According to reports, 10 people are still missing and a rescue operation is underway to find them.

Italian authorities have not identified those killed in the crash.

Authorities say five helicopters, dozens of alpine search and rescue experts and dogs are searching for the missing.

Italian officials say the avalanche has been caused by a heat wave in the country that has been raging for the past several days. The temperature in the mountain range was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Keep in mind that Italy is in the grip of extreme heat these days and the country is facing drought due to lack of rains.
