The Uruguayan army reported that short-term clashes were heard in areas near the town of Russayo, but far from the compatriot base, in the last hours of this Saturday. Although the version was not confirmed, it is believed that the clashes were between the M23 rebels and groups loyal to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Both Russayo and the nearby city of Rubare are under the control of the M23. The “Uruguay IV” battalion is located in Rubare, and its staff is in good condition, taking all necessary security measures.
As for the health status of the injured troops, Sergeant Adrián Fernández remains admitted to the level IV hospital in Uganda, where he is in critical but stable condition. The rest of the personnel who were injured during the incident are receiving medical care according to their individual needs. Sergeant Diego Ferreira and Cabo 1st Julio Álvarez were both surgically treated at the hospital in Rubare on Saturday morning and are evolving favorably. Cabo 2nd Roque France underwent a plate procedure at the same hospital and may require additional surgical intervention.
Cabo 2nd Leonel Méndez was also surgically treated at the hospital in Rubare on Saturday morning and is recovering well. Cabo 2nd Jhon Patron is receiving treatment at the same hospital and is in a favorable condition. Cabo 2nd Álvaro Caldineli and Soldado 1st Luis Caetano are being treated for spark wounds and are receiving daily care. Soldado 1st Franco Olivera is also recovering from post-traumatic shock and is evolving favorably. All the injured personnel are receiving the necessary medical attention, and their conditions are being closely monitored.
