Tennis Star Davidovich Rises in Rankings After Life Lessons and Coaching Changes

Alejandro Davidovich is on a roll, and his rankings are a testament to that. He’s set to break into the ‘Top40’ next Monday, thanks to an impressive showing in the round of 16 of the Open of Australia and his finals appearances in Delray Beach and Acapulco. This is a significant leap, considering he started the year at 61.

The Málaga native has had a remarkable turnaround, especially when you compare his performance to last season. He had 18 wins to 22 losses, but this year, he’s already notched up 13 wins. Last year, his best results were quarterfinals in Marseille, Dubai, and Atlanta, but it seems he’s pushing himself to new heights in 2025.

A major change in his career came in May when he decided to part ways with his lifelong coach, Jorge Aguirre, and started working with Fernando Verdasco. When Verdasco wasn’t traveling, David Sánchez took the reins, working alongside Félix Mantilla. This coaching change seems to have had a positive impact, as Davidovich is seeing significant improvements in his game.

Despite his recent success, Davidovich reflects on the past year as a challenging time. He admits, “Last year I had a very bad time. And I learned a lot, not from tennis but about life, and it opened my eyes.” This newfound perspective seems to be serving him well, both on and off the court. He’s made significant changes, moving from Fuengirola to Montecarlo, and has a new physiotherapist, physical trainer, and representative. After Roland Garros, he’s set to get married, signaling a new chapter in his life. For now, though, the focus is on his tennis, and the results are certainly promising.

Davidovich had been eyeing Los Angeles, a stop before heading to Indian Wells, the next big destination on the tennis calendar. However, for now, the Tennis Garden in Coachella Valley will have to wait. His journey is an inspiring one, showing how sometimes, taking a step back and re-evaluating can lead to significant growth and success.
