Tennis Legend Roger Federer Achieves Billionaire Status: $1.1 Billion Net Worth

Roger Federer might have retired from professional tennis, but he’s still winning big. Forget the trophies for a moment; we’re talking about a victory in the financial leagues. It seems the tennis legend has officially joined the billionaire club, proving that life after the court can be incredibly lucrative.

On Friday, August 22, 2025, Forbes dropped the news that Federer, now 44 years old, had pushed his net worth past the billion-dollar mark, reaching an estimated $1.1 billion. That’s a lot of prize money and smart business moves rolled into one impressive sum. This achievement puts him in a very elite group. Forbes, which often tracks the wealth of famous personalities, reported that Federer is only the seventh athlete ever to earn more than a billion dollars in pre-tax income while actively playing their sport.

A Sporting Elite

Who else is in this exclusive circle? Well, he’s got some serious company. The list includes basketball star LeBron James, golf legend Tiger Woods, fellow golfer Phil Mickelson, and soccer icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Rounding out the group is boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. It’s quite the lineup of sporting titans, and Federer fits right in.

During his incredible career, Federer spent more than five years as the world’s top-ranked tennis player. He claimed victory in 103 tournaments and pocketed a cool $131 million just from prize money. For 16 years, he reigned as the highest-paid tennis player on the planet. He finally hung up his racket in 2022, but his earnings didn’t stop there.

Beyond the Baseline: Smart Investments and Endorsements

While prize money certainly helped, Federer’s massive wealth also comes from clever sponsorship deals. He had a multi-decade contract with Nike that was reportedly worth $150 million. Later, he signed a $300 million deal with the clothing brand Uniqlo. Federer also became more than just a face for brands; he helped the Swiss company On design its court-ready tennis shoes. He even kept a 3% stake in the company after it went public in 2021. Talk about a shrewd investment!

Retirement, it turns out, has been just as rewarding for Federer. He’s still focused on his financial ventures, working with his management company Team8 and investing in NotCo, a plant-based food company from Chile. In a 2024 interview with GQ, he mentioned how much he loves having the chance to pursue different interests outside of tennis now. He actually made sure to do this even when he was playing professionally.

Life in the Fast Lane, Off the Court

These days, you might catch him at events like the Met Gala, which he attended in 2023, or traveling the world. Federer admitted that he used to dislike the whole red carpet scene, the small talk, and the fancy clothes. He joked about his teenage self thinking, "What do you even say? What are we doing here? Why do I have to wear this?" He also recalled feeling like he "can’t breathe with the tie."

But things have changed. Retirement brought a feeling of "relief," he shared. He explained that once he officially crossed that line, he took a deep breath and thought, "Wow, okay, that was good."

The best part about not playing tennis professionally anymore? More quality time with his wife, Mirka, and their four children. He’s a proud dad to twin girls Myla and Charlene, aged 14, and twin boys Leo and Lenny, who are 10. In June 2024, Federer told Extra that life has been "very fluid." He’s "super happy" and enjoying traveling with his family, helping with school, and working on various projects. It seems retirement agrees with the tennis legend, keeping him busy and smiling.
