Tennis gives Dominican two gold and one silver in El Salvador

Tennis gave the Dominican Republic two gold medals and one silver on Tuesday of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Sports Games San Salvador 2023.

Nick Hardt contributed the eleventh gold medal to the country in singles, for defeating his partner Roberto Cid, who obtained the silver. The mixed doubles team added number 12 with Peter Bertrán and Kelly Williford.

Nick Hardt took over the gold this Tuesday in a purely Dominican singles final by beating Cid in a duel of three sets and one hour and 27 minutes 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 on the center court of the Merliot Sports Complex .

Hardt is consecrated with the precious metal in his first participation in the oldest regional contest on the planet, dating from 1926.

It was also the third consecutive final in which two quisqueyanos settled the duel for gold and silver, with the first two leading roles for Víctor Estrella, who in Veracruz (Mexico) 2014 beat José “Bebo” Hernández and in Barranquilla (Colombia) 2018 he did the same before the Cid, who captures his second silver in a row.

Hardt had two aces for and two double faults for one by Cid, who achieved 38 winning services to 36 of the champion, who in turn had 63% in the first service, against 60% of the friend, who instead dominated with a 73% point winner of the first service, before 69%.

In the early hours of the day, Hardt got his pass to the final by beating the Mexican Alan Rubio by a final 2-0 (6-1, 6-2 in 1:37 hours; the same as Cid, who beat Blaise Bicknell with solvency , from Jamaica, 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 18 minutes.

Gold in mixed doubles

The mixed doubles team was also crowned champion of the El Salvador Games with the rackets of Peter Bertrán and Kelly Williford, who relegated the Costa Rican couple formed by Cristian Rodríguez and María Pérez to the silver medal.

The result was in two games with a closed score of 7-6, 7-5, the last one won by the duo from Quisqueyan, who battled for an hour and 36 minutes to win gold number 12 for the country.

Bertrán-Williford reached the final with a comeback included 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 over the duet of Sebastián Domínguez and Kiristen Weedon, identified as Centro Caribe Sports, instead of Guatemala. It took him 2:36 minutes to settle the game, with a rain interruption in between.

Men’s double falls

After playing in the semifinals of the singles tournament and the grand final that faced them, Nick Hardt and Roberto Cid as a doubles couple fell in the semifinal, not without giving a great fight to the Costa Rican duo made up of Rodrigo Crespo and Jesse Flores, with a 7-6 (8-6) and 7-5.

This Wednesday and until Friday the Nations Tournament will be held at the same Merliot Sports Complex in San Salvador, in which the Dominican Republic will be represented by the same players from both branches.
