Tenerife shows off its leadership muscle against Breogán

Lenovo Tenerife exhibited the muscle that has led them to lead the Endesa League with a solidity that was not compromised at any time during their visit to Río Breogán at Pazo dos Deportes in Lugo.

The 301st victory of Txus Vidorreta (in 601 games) was very placid (61-86), too much, against a team that had a 4-4 balance and that for the first time went negative this season with the third consecutive defeat that conceded .

Tenerife plays by heart, as the rival coach, Veljko Mrsic, warned before the match. His players did not find a way to stop the leader.

The Brazilian Marcelinho Huertas connected the engine from Tenerife in Lugo and Salin (two of two in triples in the first minutes) and Cook stepped on the accelerator to put the islanders eight up after six minutes (7-15), an income that continued to grow and that the local coach, Veljko Mrsic, tried to cut with a timeout after a triple by Uruguayan Bruno Fitipaldo (9-20).

This interruption did not help the Galicians to cut the rhythm of the visitors. They completed a run of 2-14 and went fifteen up (9-24, m.8).

A three-pointer from Scott Bamforth woke up the Lugo team, who ended the first quarter down twelve (14-26) and started the second more loose with Sergi García leading them. From 6.75, Momirov put the Lugo to ten (21-31, m.13).

Breogán, who had made four fouls in the first ten minutes, entered a bonus three and a half minutes into the second act, in which Brajkovic reduced the deficit to eight, but Salin, with his third triple in as many attempts, and the personal fouls to Jaime Fernández and Diagne stretched it back to fifteen (23-38, m.17).

Sergi Quintela and three free throws by Sergi García gave the Lugo team some oxygen (28-38) before the good defense of the people of Tenerife and another three-pointer from Salin -four of five until the break- again gave the islanders a cushion (30-44) when the intermission was reached.

They came to him with a 66 percent success rate in shots of two, 50 percent in shots of three and 75 percent in free throws, in contrast to 25% of the Lugo in triples (3 of 12) and 47 in attempts of two (8 of 17).

Nakic hit the first basket of the third quarter, in which consecutive three-pointers from Huertas and Doornekamp and a subsequent one from Cook (34-53, m.25) gave Tenerife a boost (+19).

Only Happ’s performance allowed Breogán to maintain a thread of life in the game, but a minimal one. Nothing worked for Mrsic’s. Shermadini and a basket of two with additional from Abromaitis (42-64, m.30) further paved the game for Tenerife (+22) before entering the last quarter.

A 5-0 run (47-64, m.32) by the sky-blues in that period was the last attempt for the locals. As had happened before, he was suffocated by the aurinegros, who did not lower their foot of the accelerator and came to have 28 of rent (53-81, m.37) in Lugo, where they took the four quarters.
