Ten Portuguese Players Among FIFA Team of the Year Nominees

Portuguese players and those from the country’s top league have secured a substantial number of nominations for FIFA’s annual Men’s World XI, underscoring Portugal’s influence in global football.

Ten Portuguese nationals are among the contenders for the prestigious team, recognized for their performances over the past year. Two additional players, an Argentine and a Swede who both played in Portugal last season, also made the list.

Veteran forward Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes lead the Portuguese contingent of nominees.

Other notable Portuguese players on the list include Manchester City defender Ruben Dias, Bayern Munich’s Raphael Guerreiro, and Paris Saint-Germain duo Nuno Mendes and Vitinha.

FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, Benfica midfielder João Neves, and Al Hilal’s Ruben Neves are also nominated.

Argentine defender Nicolás Otamendi, currently with Benfica, and Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, who played for Sporting CP last season, complete the nominations linked to Portuguese football.

These selections reflect the strong performance of Portuguese talent both domestically and in top leagues across Europe and beyond, as judged by global football’s governing body.
