Tecno Spark 40 Series Launches: Budget Phones with Helio G200, 144Hz, IP64

Tecno might not be the first name you think of when it comes to smartphones. Yet, this brand holds serious sway in markets across Africa and parts of Asia. They’ve just dropped their Spark 40 series, featuring three new phones: the standard Spark 40, the Spark 40 Pro, and the top-tier Spark 40 Pro+. These aren’t just any budget phones. Tecno has packed them with features you usually find on much pricier devices, a clever move to stand out.

Tecno Spark 40 Pro+

Let’s talk about the Spark 40 Pro+. This phone is making headlines as the first to use MediaTek’s new Helio 200 chip. MediaTek just unveiled this chip in May 2025. It’s built on a modern 6-nanometer process and zips along at up to 2.2 GHz. Graphics rendering is much better than the older Helio G100. This powerful chip pairs nicely with 8 GB of RAM and a choice of 128 or 256 GB of storage.

The display on the Pro+ is another eye-catcher. It’s a large 6.78-inch AMOLED screen. This means colors pop and blacks are truly deep. It boasts a sharp 1220p+ resolution. More importantly for gamers, it refreshes images 144 times a second. This makes everything on screen incredibly smooth. You’ll also find the fingerprint sensor right under the display.

Beyond the core specs, the Pro+ offers some surprising perks. It has a solid 50-megapixel main camera. For selfies, there’s a 13-megapixel front camera. The battery is big at 5,200 mAh, meaning it should last all day. Charging is super fast, too, with 45W wired charging. And here’s the real kicker for a budget phone: it supports 30W wireless charging. You can even use it to charge other gadgets at 5W. The phone is also built tough with an IP64 rating. This means it’s fully protected from dust and can handle splashes of water from any direction. Out of the box, it runs Android 15 with Tecno’s own HiOS 15.1 on top. Tecno promises long-term support for the Pro+, offering 2 to 3 years of OS updates and an extra year of security patches.

The Spark 40 Pro+ comes in four stylish colors: Aurora White, Nebula Black, Moon Titanium, and Tundra Green. It launched in Uganda for 769,000 Ugandan Shillings. Looking at these specs and the price, Tecno really nailed it. Getting a 144 Hz screen and 30W wireless charging on a phone this affordable is rare. For context, even the much pricier iPhone 16, which costs $799 in the US market, has a lower refresh rate and slower wireless charging (25W). This shows Tecno is serious about value.

Stepping down slightly, we have the Tecno Spark 40 Pro. It shares many features with its Pro+ sibling. You get the same crisp 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 1220p+ resolution and that buttery smooth 144 Hz refresh rate. The main difference is the chip inside. This model uses the older Helio G100 from 2024, still speedy at up to 2.2 GHz. It also comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage.

Other key specs for the Spark 40 Pro include a 50-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel selfie camera. The generous 5,200 mAh battery supports 45W wired charging, 30W wireless charging, and 5W reverse charging, just like the Pro+. It also holds onto the IP64 water and dust resistance. The Spark 40 Pro will be available in Ink Black, Lake Blue, Moon Titanium, and Bamboo Green. It hits stores on July 7, 2025, priced at 679,000 Ugandan Shillings.

Finally, the entry-level Tecno Spark 40 brings up the rear, but still packs a punch for its price. This model features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen. While not AMOLED, IPS technology still delivers sharp colors. It has an HD+ resolution and a good 120 Hz refresh rate. For cameras, it includes an 8-megapixel selfie lens and the same 50-megapixel main camera as its pricier siblings.

Under the hood, the Spark 40 runs on a Helio G81 chip, clocking in at up to 2.0 GHz. It also gets a solid 8 GB of RAM and the option of 128 or 256 GB of storage. The large 5,200 mAh battery is present here too, supporting fast 45W wired charging. This model comes in Ink Black, Titanium Gray, Mirage Blue, and Vail White. It carries a price tag of just 479,000 Ugandan Shillings.
