Team Medellín pronounces on the sanction of Miguel Ángel López

Superman López was notified of his sanction for possible anti-doping violation. The Colombian cyclist, who was competing in the Tour of Panama, was suspended by the UCI for possession of a prohibited substance in days before the Giro d’Italia 2022. “We accompany the member of our team, as an athlete and a human being, and his family at this time,” expressed Team Medellín in its statement.

The rider belonged to Astana when the ban occurred and had to leave that Giro due to a hip injury. Team Medellín, despite mentioning the immediate withdrawal of the Colombian from the Tour of Panama, called on citizens and cycling fans to embrace and trust Superman.

In addition, the Colombian team emphasizes that the UCI notification is about a “possible infringement”, so the runner should continue with his defense. “We trust that Miguel Ángel López will continue to defend him, as he has done in recent months, in a case that dates back to mid-2022, the year in which he represented Astana,” the statement said.

At the beginning of the year, Superman López referred to the case and insisted on his innocence. “We were fine, calm, without any worries. I am not doped, I do not have a doping problem, my biological passport is intact and from one moment to the next it was as if the floor had been taken from you”, commented the cyclist.
