Team Liquid, a top esports organization, was rumored to be making a comeback to competitive Free Fire in early 2025. The Pichau Arena team caught up with Rafael Queiroz, Team Liquid’s manager in Brazil, to get the inside scoop.
Team Liquid was a dominant force in Free Fire from 2020 to 2023, winning the Brazilian championship and the Continental Series, a prestigious tournament featuring teams from across the Americas. But after a few years, they stepped back from the competitive scene.
Why Team Liquid didn’t make a comeback
Rafael Queiroz explained that the organization explored the possibility of returning to competitive Free Fire. They were particularly interested in acquiring the current Fluxo lineup. However, it turned out that Fluxo was already set on their path.
“We looked into several games that could perform well in the EWC (Esports World Cup),” Queiroz said. “Some, like Crossfire and TFT, showed promise, but Free Fire wasn’t one of them.”
The Team Liquid manager revealed that they did reach out to some teams, including Fluxo, to gauge their interest in a potential partnership. “We wanted the Fluxo team, as it made sense for us,” he said. “Luuking, their coach, was a champion with us, and Butzin used to play for Team Liquid. We had a good relationship with their former players, and it seemed like a natural fit.”
However, Fluxo had already sealed their deal, and Team Liquid didn’t find any other suitable teams available in the market.
A possible future comeback
Queiroz didn’t rule out a potential return to competitive Free Fire in the future. The organization is keeping a close eye on opportunities to re-enter the scene.
“We’re keeping our radar on and watching for any chance to get back into competitive Free Fire,” Queiroz said.
