The ODI World Cup 2023 is to be held on Indian soil. Team India will play 88 games in the domestic season from September 2023 to March 2028. 88 games include 25 friendlies. BCCI may surpass $1 billion mark through separate sale of TV and digital rights.

Team India will play so many games

Over the next five years, Team India will have to play 88 games in the domestic season, including 25 Tests, 27 ODIs and 36 T20s. Of 88 games, India has to play 39 games only against England and Australia, so 45 percent of the total games. 21 home games against Australia (five Tests, six ODIs and 10 T20Is) and 18 games against England (10 Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is).

Made so much money in the last five years

In the last five-year domestic season (2018-2023), BCCI received US$944 million (approx. Rs.6138 crore) from Star India, including Rs.60 crore per game (digital and TV). This time BCCI will submit separate bids for digital and TV rights.

BCCI will benefit greatly from this

BCCI earned Rs 48390 crore from media rights during the IPL buying digital rights from Reliance and TV rights from Star TV. As with IPL, the auction process is concluded with an auction. A broadcaster linked to the deal believes it will be difficult to give numbers at this time. The dollar-rupee ratio has also changed compared to last time, but digital rights can bring in more money than TV rights.

Disney, Star, Reliance and Viacom will be the main competitors for India’s national games and broadcasters like Zee can compete. The World Cup is scheduled to take place after three months and if India doesn’t win, advertising revenue will be hit. Another broadcaster said there would be 25 Tests this domestic season. Looking back at last season, how many tests went up to day five? Most were over within three days. That is also an aspect.
