Team India unable to progress in ICC tournament? Naseer Hussain said the reason

Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes that India does not play freely in International Cricket Council (ICC) competitions and a lack of alternative planning and selection issues were the main reasons for the team’s early departure from the T20 World Cup. India had to bear the brunt of losing the first two games to Pakistan and New Zealand and the team failed to reach the semi-finals of the current T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Hussain told ‘T20worldcup.com’, ‘You have to express yourself by taking the field. They (India) have no shortage of talent. This could be the only thing that does not prevent India from moving forward in ICC events. He said: “The way India should play cricket freely, it doesn’t play cricket because it has so much talent.”

India had lost to Pakistan by 10 wickets in their first match. They lost the next game to New Zealand by eight wickets. New Zealand’s victory over Afghanistan on Sunday knocked India out of the race for the semifinals. Hussain said: ‘I considered him a strong contender for the title. He played IPL here and there are a lot of star players on his team. He suffered a setback in the first match itself. The way Shaheen Afridi played the power game. The two balls that Rohit (Sharma) and (KL) Rahul came out on, a lot of great hitters could have been out of them.

He said: ‘Sometimes such a problem happens with the Indian team. They have so many good hitters in their top order that their middle order doesn’t have much of a chance and suddenly you need an alternate plan that doesn’t exist. Hussain said playing Hardik Pandya just as a hitter affected the team’s balance.

He said: ‘I consider India a very talented team, but sometimes in terms of selection, playing a player like Hardik Pandya as just a batter changes the balance of the team. It was not the right decision not to open the innings of Rohit and Rahul against New Zealand. Hussain said: ‘I never separate Rohit Sharma from KL Rahul. He is a world class player. Against New Zealand, young Ishan Kishan was sent to open the innings with Rahul while Rohit came to bat at number three.
