The first ODI between India and the West Indies was played in Barbados, in which the India team won. In this match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma included fast bowler Umran Malik in the starting eleven. Although Umran bowled only 3 overs in the match and did not have any success. Now, former Indian player Akash Chopra has raised doubts about the use of Umran in team management.
In the match, Umran Malik came back after expending 10 runs in the first over and gave up just 7 runs in the remaining two overs. After the first ODI against West Indies, Akash Chopra while speaking on his YouTube channel said that Umran Malik is not being used properly.
The former Indian player said: “You held it but you bowled only three overs. He didn’t take a single wicket. He had a chance to come and take 2-3 wickets in the end but you didn’t go to him. Umran Malik – a box he should have ticked but he didn’t.”
Akash Chopra further said that whether Bumrah is fit or not, you have a fast pace. He said: “You kept this fast bowler, the selection was made especially because he has not been with the team for some time and his IPL was very average, but you didn’t keep him at the Asian Games. If you’re thinking that Bumrah isn’t fit and even if he is, he still has the express pacemaker.”
The second ODI between India and the West Indies will also be played on July 29 at Kensington Oval in Barbados. The first match was also played at Kensington Oval itself, in which the India team won by 5 wickets and took a 1–0 series lead.
