Tatjana Maria pulled off a stunning upset yesterday, taking down Amanda Anisimova to win the Queen’s tournament. This victory comes three years after Maria’s impressive semifinal run at Wimbledon.
At 37, Maria – ranked 86th in the world – defied expectations by beating the 15th-ranked Anisimova. The final score was 6-3, 6-4, with the match lasting just over an hour.
Maria’s win marked her fourth career title and her first since 2023. What’s notable is that she took down four top-15 players to get here.
This German player has shown she can perform on grass, having won in Mallorca back in 2018. Her recent win at Queen’s could be a good sign for her upcoming Wimbledon performance, where she made it to the semifinals in 2022.
Anisimova still holds three titles, with her most recent win in Doha earlier this year.
