Actress Tanya Maniktala has responded to widespread rumors claiming she was cast to replace Ananya Panday in Mira Nair’s upcoming film, “Amri.” Maniktala firmly denied any involvement in the biographical project.
“I don’t know where this news came from. We have no information about this film. So it would not be right to comment on it,” Maniktala stated in an interview with Hindustan Times. This clarifies that official casting details for “Amri” remain unconfirmed.
Despite debunking the “Amri” rumors, Maniktala did confirm a different project is in the works, where she will star opposite actor Rajkummar Rao. She did not elaborate further on this confirmed collaboration.
Mira Nair’s “Amri” is a highly anticipated film based on the life of legendary Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil. Nair has previously stated her intention to portray Sher-Gil’s story as a struggle for artistic freedom and existence.
Amrita Sher-Gil was a pioneering figure in modern Indian art, known for blending Indian sensibilities with European artistic techniques. Her work captured the essence of rural India, women’s lives, and social realities, profoundly influencing generations of artists before her death in 1941 at the age of 28.
Production for “Amri” is reportedly planned across India, Hungary, and France, reflecting the key locations of Sher-Gil’s life. The narrative will explore her emotional connections with family and associates, including her father Umrao Singh Sher-Gil, husband Victor Egan, fiancé Yusuf Ali Khan, and friend Jawaharlal Nehru.
Producers are said to be in discussions with prominent actors for the film. Potential cast members reportedly include Vicky Kaushal, Jim Sarbh, and Naseeruddin Shah.
