UNICEF launches door-to-door anti-polio campaign in Afghanistan under Taliban supervision Millions of Afghan children will be vaccinated during the campaign.

According to the German website Deutsche Welle, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF have successfully completed negotiations with the ruling Taliban for the campaign.

The UNICEF statement did not specify when the WHO and UNICEF negotiated the campaign with the Taliban government, but did say it had the Taliban’s full support.

The second polio vaccine campaign will be launched simultaneously in Afghanistan and Pakistan in December this year. Both countries have agreed to launch a second campaign.

According to doctors, the risk of an outbreak remains high until the disease is eradicated.
