Taliban enter Kabul, Afghan Interior Ministry confirms

According to foreign media, the situation in Afghanistan is becoming more tense, 21 out of 34 provincial capitals have come under the control of the Afghan Taliban while the Taliban have entered the federal capital Kabul.

Confirming the entry of the Afghan Taliban into Kabul, the Afghan Interior Ministry said there was an exchange of fire between Afghan forces and the Taliban in the Afghan capital.

The Afghan Defense Ministry said government buildings in Kabul had been evacuated, while the United States had sent helicopters to the embassy to evacuate diplomatic personnel from Kabul.

Foreign media quoted Afghan officials as saying that the Taliban had entered Kalakan, Qarabagh and Paghman.

On the other hand, the Afghan Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that they intend to enter Kabul peacefully, not by force.

Zabihullah Mujahid said talks were underway with the Afghan government before entering Kabul to ensure a safe transfer of power.

The Taliban spokesman added that Kabul is a big city so they will not enter by force, the government is speaking for them to surrender voluntarily to the Taliban government.

All major Afghan cities, except Kabul, were captured by the Taliban.
