Incident Under Investigation
A recent incident involving a damaged international submarine telecommunications cable north of Taiwan has led to the interception of a ship with a Chinese name and a Cameroonian flag, known as the ‘Shunxin39’.
The Chunghwa Telecom company initially detected the ship on Friday in an area northeast of Yeliu and promptly requested the intervention of the Taiwan Coast Guard.
In response, a Coast Guard vessel was dispatched from Keelung and successfully located the Chinese ship in the specified area. The vessel was then ordered to approach port for a thorough inspection.
Prosecutor’s Office Involvement
The Prosecutor’s Office has already begun investigating the incident to determine responsibility for the damage suffered by the telecommunications cable.
