Taís Pina’s European judo medal dreams took a hit when she lost to Szofi Ozbas in the semifinals. Now, she’s set to compete for bronze in the -70 kg category at the Podgorica European Championships.
Next Up: A Serbian Challenge
Pina’s next opponent is Aleksandra Andric, a Serbian judoka who previously won the cadet world title. Andric earned her spot in the final by defeating Miriam Butkereit with an ippon.
Road to the Semifinals
Interestingly, Andric had already faced off against a Portuguese judoka earlier in the competition. She beat Bárbara Timo in the round of 16, halting Timo’s progress in the tournament. The European Championships continue in Podgorica, Montenegro, with Catarina Costa having already secured a silver medal in the -48 kg category.
