Taggart Breaks Record In Perth Glory’s 1-1 Draw With City

Adam Taggart secured his place in club history with a 91st-minute equalizer to force a 1-1 draw for Perth Glory against Melbourne City at HBF Park on Sunday. The stoppage-time strike salvaged a point for the home side and denied the visitors a critical road victory in Round 22 of the A-League Men season.

The late goal marked a historic milestone for Taggart, representing his 60th career goal for Perth Glory. The achievement officially moves him past Andy Keogh to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Melbourne City opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Daniel Arzani finished a sequence into the bottom corner following an assist from Max Caputo. The visitors maintained offensive pressure throughout the contest, generating 20 total shots compared to Perth’s 13. Both teams recorded exactly six shots on target, and possession was split evenly at 50 percent for each side.

Perth Glory goalkeeper Matthew Sutton kept the deficit at a single goal, executing a crucial double save in the second half to maintain his team’s chances.

The final result leaves both teams struggling to climb the table in Australian football. Melbourne City sits in ninth place with 26 points, missing an opportunity to close the gap on the top six. Perth Glory remains in 11th place with 23 points under interim head coach Adam Griffiths, keeping their mathematical chances of reaching the finals alive.

The draw brings the all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs to 21 wins for Perth, 17 wins for Melbourne City, and 12 draws.
