Taberner, Ramos and Carballés, to eighth in the Córdoba Open

The Spanish tennis players Carlos Taberner, Albert Ramos and Roberto Carballés have managed to access this Tuesday the round of 16 of the Córdoba Open in which a combative Fernando Verdasco could not complete the full Spanish.

Taberner gave the big surprise of the day after beating Argentine Federico Delbonis, fifth seed, in two sets, 6-4, 6-2 after an hour and a half of the game. The Spanish tennis player was more solid on serve and also managed to take advantage of four of the eight break balls he had to win the match. In the round of 16, Taberner will face the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, who beat the Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo 6-4 and 6-1.

Who did not give the surprise an option was Alberto Ramos. The Spaniard, sixth favorite for the title, beat Slovakian Andrej Martin in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and a half match. Ramos was very firm with his serve, as he did not concede any break balls against Martin while he did take advantage of the three break options he had. In the round of 16, Ramos will face the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas.

The third Spanish victory of the day at the Córdoba Open was achieved by the Tenerife native Roberto Carballés, who defeated the young Danish Holger Rune 6-2 and 6-4, in a match in which the Spaniard managed to defend himself very well and take advantage of up to five break options. Carballés will face the Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 16fourth favorite for the title.

Verdasco tried to defend himself against a tennis player in clear progression in recent months but the four break balls he conceded (he managed to save another eight) gave victory to Báez, who in the round of 16 will face the Chilean Cristian Garín, third favourite.
