Taapsee shared a note on her Instagram story, describing the incident as heart-wrenching. She criticized the growing obsession with virtual validation and social media metrics.
Taapsee’s Concerns
Taapsee expressed her fears, stating that the intense need for virtual love can blind people to real love around them. She noted that instant gratification from likes and comments can overshadow things that truly add value to life. “I’m scared that one day the number of social media followers will overshadow the will to live,” she wrote.
Meesha’s family revealed that she had built her world around Instagram, with the sole goal of reaching 1 million followers. When her followers started dwindling, she became distressed and felt worthless. In a statement, her family said she was depressed since April, often crying and saying, “What will I do if my followers decrease? My career will be over.”
The family claimed they tried to remind her that Instagram was just a part of her life, but she was too troubled and took her own life, devastating their family. Meesha’s death was announced on her Instagram handle on April 26, just two days before her 25th birthday.
The incident has sparked a conversation about the pressures of social media and its potential impact on mental health.
