T20 World Cup, SA vs SL match preview: De Kock can return against Sri Lanka

Quinton de Kock, who withdrew from the previous match for refusing to take a symbolic position on one knee in the campaign against racism, could take the field in the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

De Kock had made himself available for the remaining T20 World Cup matches by issuing a statement on Thursday. He said that if kneeling helped educate others, he had no problem doing so. De Kock said he was called a racist for not doing it before the West Indies game, which caused him a lot of pain.

South Africa won the match by eight wickets. De Kock’s return will give South Africa’s higher order a boost and the left-handed hitter himself will try to silence critics by playing big innings. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has scored 12 and two runs in the World Cup so far and will be looking forward to getting back in shape.

South Africa has hitters like Reeza Hendrix, Rasie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram and the trusty David Miller who can tear up any attack and Sri Lanka is no exception. South African hitters, however, will have to be on guard against Sri Lankan spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahish Teekshana.

South African bowlers did a great job against the West Indies. Fast bowler Dwayne Pretorius took three wickets in this match. They have two of the best death-overs pitchers, Kagiso Rabada and Enrique Norcia, and their role will also be crucial in the next game.

Keshav Maharaj and Tabrez Shamsi, both South African spinners, will also have an important role to play. Sri Lanka will have to start over after forgetting the seven-field loss at the hands of Australia. Charit Aslanka’s good form is a positive aspect for him. Kusal Perera, who started well against Australia, needs to play big innings.
