Riot Games recently unveiled the championship skins for T1, the team that triumphed at Worlds 2024 in League of Legends. This announcement, made on Tuesday, quickly stirred up a strong reaction within the player community. While special skins are a long-standing tradition to honor world champions, the specific character choices this time around sparked notable disappointment.
League of Legends celebrates its world champions by creating special skins for the characters they played during their winning run. This year, the chosen champions for T1 were Gnar, Vi, Sylas, Yone, Varus, and Pyke. Fans got their first look at these new cosmetics in a special video presentation:

A Familiar Oversight for Faker’s Galio
Many fans felt a familiar sting of disappointment. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, often called the “GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time) in League of Legends, is famous for his incredible plays with the champion Galio. Despite Faker securing five world titles, Galio has never received a championship skin. This has become a running “criticism” among the community.
Adding to the frustration, Galio makes several appearances in the reveal video. This made many players hope that this would finally be Galio’s year for a skin. Back in 2017, Faker famously used Galio in all five semifinal matches against NRG. He delivered what many still consider one of the game’s greatest performances, carrying his team to a 3-2 victory. This powerful showing created huge expectations for a Galio skin, even though T1 did not win the championship that year.

The online reaction was swift and clear. Comments on YouTube highlighted the community’s unhappiness. Some users wrote things like, “Galio was robbed.” Another comment stated, “Galio did miracles last year, and instead of him, they put Yone who looks more like Lissandra.”
These new skins are set to arrive in update 25.18 for Riot Games’ Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). Players can expect to see them available in the in-game store around September 10th.
