The Polish Iga Switek, number one in the world, got a place in the semifinals of the WTA 1,000 in Rome on Friday after beating the Canadian Bianca Vanessa Andreescu in two sets, 7-6 (2) and 6-0.
Swiatek does not forgive in Rome. The favorite to conquer the Italian capital did not let the revelation of the women’s draw continue on her way, an Andreescu who greatly complicated the first set for the Polish but could not stop her in the second.
The first sleeve was more than even. Andreescu, who eliminated the Spanish Nuria Párrizas, resisted conceding the ‘break’ on two occasions and had the possibility of achieving it on one, but equality led to the tie-break.
