According to The Defense Post, the Swedish government has signed an agreement with ammunition manufacturer Nammo to boost production of artillery ammunition in Sweden.
The Swedish Defense Material Administration (FMV) reported that the agreement will focus on improving the security of supply chains for 155mm artillery ammunition.
This supports the EU Ammunition Production Support Act initiative to increase ammunition and missile production in the Union to strengthen its defense capabilities.
The contract, co-financed by the Swedish state and the EU, will be drawn up in its final version when the Union provides the funds for the first quarter of 2024.
The agreement is part of Sweden's continued support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Other Nordic countries, such as Norway and DenmarkThey also sent artillery shells to help the country fight the invasion.
In 2022, Nammo signed a seven-year contract with FMV to produce various types of 12.7mm ammunition on its production lines in Spain and Norway.
The 120 million crowns ($11.6 million) deal. established Nammo as Sweden's sole ammunition supplier until 2029.
