Suspect Arrested After Father, Son Shot Dead in Portugal Restaurant

Portuguese police have arrested a 61-year-old man with a prior criminal record in connection with the fatal shooting of a father and son at a restaurant on Sunday, authorities said.

The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced the arrest on Monday in the Montijo district, southeast of Lisbon.

The victims were identified as a 60-year-old father and his 23-year-old son.

The shooting occurred around 8:00 PM local time on Sunday.

Authorities confirmed the suspect had a “work relationship” with the victims.

Investigators have not yet fully determined a motive for the double homicide.

The firearm used in the incident has not been recovered, the PJ stated.

The suspect has a police record for kidnapping and vehicle theft.

He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday for an initial judicial interrogation and the application of coercive measures.

The victims were transported to Barreiro hospital after the shooting but were declared dead there despite resuscitation efforts.

The PJ’s Department of Criminal Investigation of Setúbal led the operation, with collaboration from the Investigation Department of Guarda.
