The legal drama surrounding actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death is far from over. A court in Mumbai recently issued a notice to Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty. The court wants her response to the closure report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in this high-profile case.
The CBI submitted its closure report back in March. This report was initially filed in a Magistrate Court located in Bandra. Later, the case was moved to an Esplanade Court in South Mumbai. This specific court handles cases investigated by the CBI. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R. D. Chavan is overseeing the matter. He issued the notice to Rhea Chakraborty in early July.
The Complex Case So Far
Sushant Singh Rajput, a 34-year-old actor from Bihar, was found hanging in his Bandra apartment in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. His death led to a large public debate. Even five years later, the case continues to be a major talking point.
The CBI took over the investigation from the Bihar Police. This happened after Sushant’s father, K.K. Singh, filed a complaint in Patna. Mr. Singh accused Rhea Chakraborty of helping his son take his own life. He also claimed that Rhea and her family had stolen his son’s money. Rhea Chakraborty has always denied these serious allegations in various interviews.
Adding another layer to the case, Rhea Chakraborty filed her own complaint. She accused Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters and a doctor, saying they were responsible for his death. During its investigation, the CBI questioned many people close to Sushant. They also collected his medical records. The agency presented its closure report after completing its probe.
Now, the court faces a critical decision. After hearing from all parties involved, the court must decide whether to accept the CBI’s report. The alternative is to order the agency to conduct further investigation. The next hearing for this ongoing legal battle is scheduled for August 12.
