Surendra Mohan Pathak: No Indian Hero Can Be James Bond

Meet Surendra Mohan Pathak, the mastermind behind some of Hindi literature’s most iconic mystery novels. His characters are so complex, they blur the lines between good and evil. One such character, Vimal, is now being adapted into a web series. Pathak sat down with Pankaj Shukla to dish out the details.

When asked about his debut in the entertainment industry, Pathak revealed that it’s been a long time coming. “The idea is great, but I’m not sure when the project will take off,” he said. The producer has promised to wrap up the series within six months, but Pathak remains skeptical.

Pathak has received numerous offers from filmmakers in the past, but most of them have been unimpressive. “They want to acquire the rights to my novels for a paltry sum, and they don’t even offer a decent amount of money,” he complained. However, one producer, Piyush Dinesh Gupta, has managed to win him over with his professionalism and willingness to accommodate Pathak’s demands.

As for the current crop of spy films in Bollywood, Pathak hasn’t seen any of them. He’s not a fan of movies or TV shows and prefers to focus on his writing. When asked about his favorite Hindi spy films, he mentioned “Aparadhi Kaun” and “Dhund” as two of his top picks.

If he had to choose a Bollywood actor to play James Bond, Pathak would pick Hrithik Roshan. But he’s quick to note that no Indian actor can truly do justice to the iconic character. “James Bond is not just about looks; it’s about a certain set of skills and qualities that our actors lack,” he explained.

Pathak’s web series, based on his Vimal novels, promises to be an exciting project. With its complex characters and gripping storylines, it’s sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Will it live up to the hype? Only time will tell.

Web Series and Films Based on Pathak’s Novels

The upcoming web series will be based on Pathak’s first two Vimal novels, which are part of a massive 48-part series. The producer has shown a commitment to adapting the entire series, but it remains to be seen how the project will unfold.

In the past, Pathak has been approached by various filmmakers to adapt his novels, but most of them have been unimpressive. He’s had to deal with his fair share of “chicken feed” offers, where producers want to acquire the rights to his novels for a minimal amount. However, with Piyush Dinesh Gupta, he’s found a producer who is willing to listen to his demands and accommodate his needs.

Pathak’s Take on James Bond

Pathak is not a fan of the current James Bond films, and he believes that no Indian actor can truly play the iconic character. “James Bond is not just about looks; it’s about a certain set of skills and qualities that our actors lack,” he said. When asked to choose a Bollywood actor who could play James Bond, he picked Hrithik Roshan, but he’s quick to note that even Roshan would not be able to do justice to the character.

The James Bond franchise has had six actors play the iconic character, and each of them has brought their unique style to the role. From Timothy Dalton to Daniel Craig, the Bond actors have been known for their charm, wit, and sophistication. Pathak believes that Indian actors lack these qualities, which is why they cannot play James Bond convincingly.

  • Timothy Dalton: The youngest Bond actor, who played the character in one film.
  • Roger Moore: The oldest Bond actor, who played the character in seven films.
  • Daniel Craig: The current Bond actor, known for his rugged and intense portrayal of the character.
