Stand-up comedian Sunaynaa Raina is in hot water again, this time for allegedly making fun of a blind baby with a serious muscle condition. The Cure SMA Foundation of India took Raina to court, claiming she mocked the baby’s condition during a stand-up routine.
Here’s what happened: Raina was doing a stand-up bit about charity. She talked about a two-month-old baby who needed a ₹16 crore injection to survive. She said, “Think about it. The injection might not even work. The baby might die after taking it. And if it survives, it might grow up and say it wants to be a poet.”
Raina took it a step further by asking a woman in the audience what she would do if she were the baby’s mother and had ₹16 crore. She suggested that the mother might not want to spend the money if the baby’s future was uncertain.
The Cure SMA Foundation of India wasn’t happy with Raina’s jokes. They told the court that Raina was making fun of a baby with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a serious condition that affects the muscles.
Court Slams Raina’s ‘Disturbing’ Jokes
The Supreme Court wasn’t amused either. Justice Surya Kant said he was “fed up” with cases like this and that they were “disturbing.” The court is now looking into the matter and considering what action to take.
The court’s reaction suggests that Raina might be in for a rough ride. The case highlights the fine line between comedy and offense, and whether Raina crossed it.
