Some moments feel like a dream, and for Froholdt, his latest game for Denmark was definitely one of them. The midfielder, known for his work with FC Porto, recently switched his club’s blue and white for Denmark’s red and white. Yet, he kept doing what he does best: playing incredible football. In a starting role against Belarus, the young talent exploded onto the scene. He scored and assisted a goal, all within a blistering five-minute spell, only 19 minutes into the match.
That goal was a big one, marking his very first for the senior national team. It came during his fifth international appearance. With Denmark leading 4-0 by halftime, coach Brian Riemer wisely let Froholdt rest. Seasoned veteran Christian Eriksen stepped onto the field in his place. In the end, Denmark crushed Belarus 6-0, keeping their dream of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup very much alive. Sporting’s Hjulmand also played, completing 64 minutes of the dominant victory.
Froholdt’s performance was particularly interesting because of his position. Unlike his usual role at FC Porto, he played more on the left side of the midfield for Denmark. This shift didn’t stop him from showing his knack for being everywhere on the field, though. He popped up in scoring positions multiple times, hitting the back of the net once. The second time, he set up Rasmus Hojlund for an easy tap-in, making the score 2-0.
“It’s always good to score goals, of course,” Froholdt told Danish reporters after the game. He added, “It’s also an important part of my game to contribute like that. Scoring gives me a bit more confidence.” It seems this breakout performance has given a promising young player an even stronger belief in his abilities.
