Superman López to Enric Mas: “With you I don’t want to run anymore because you’re selfish”

Miguel Ángel ‘Superman’ López has reopened the wounds that seemed closed after his abrupt departure from Movistar after leaving in the penultimate stage of La Vuelta. The Astana cyclist was the protagonist this Friday in the Colombian television program RCN ‘Chupando Rueda’ and where he revealed more details of what happened at that stage.

In the advance of the interview published by the chain itself, López already reveals that “I do not withdraw from the Tour, they withdraw me from the Tour”, Alluding to what happened in that stage of La Vuelta.

But nevertheless López’s main accusations go towards Enric Mas for his attitude in that penultimate stage of La Vuelta on the way to Mos. “Enric Mas says that ‘we all try to help him’. But what would he try to help me if he was one of those who told me that when the little group left and I took the lead, why was he persecuting? He tried to help me with envy and the selfishness that surely characterizes him. I saw him and said it to his face at the time: ‘I don’t want to share one more career with you because you’re selfish.’

That episode caused López to get off the bike when he occupied third place on the podium to the surprise of the fans and despite the attempts of the Movistar staff to convince him to get back on the bike. An action that finally caused Movistar to terminate his contract to return to Astana just a year later after starring in one of the most peculiar moments of the cycling season.
