Sunny Deol has done his fair share of action scenes throughout his career. But one stunt went horribly wrong on the set of “Jal” in 2003, leaving both Sunny and Amrish Puri injured. The film, directed by Guddu Dhanoa, was one of several collaborations between Sunny and Guddu, including “Ziddi”, “Salakhen”, and “Big Brother”.
Guddu recently opened up about the incident in an interview, recalling the bike stunt that left Amrish Puri seriously hurt. “We were filming a motorbike sequence in Manali,” Guddu explained. “To make it easier for the actors, we attached a machine to the bike so they could focus on their dialogues without worrying about riding. But during the scene, the bike fell over, and Amrish ji ended up on the ground while Sunny was dragged along for a bit.”
Manali Bike Stunt Gone Wrong
The accident was severe, with Amrish Puri suffering significant damage to his eye. Guddu rushed to Sunny’s side to check if he was okay, and when Sunny gave him the all-clear, Guddu turned his attention to Amrish. “I went to Amrish sir and found him lying on the ground, his eyes completely damaged,” Guddu recalled.
Amrish Puri’s Terrifying Injury
Guddu immediately took Amrish to the army hospital in Manali. He admitted that he was too scared to face Amrish after the accident, given their close bond – Amrish had mentored Guddu on his first film, and they had a father-son-like relationship. When Guddu finally worked up the courage to visit Amrish, he found him with bandages over his eyes. But as soon as Guddu took Amrish’s hand, Amrish recognized him and reassured him, “Guddu, everything will be okay.”
