Both players had faced significant criticism recently. They were targeted following a series of less impactful games.
During the third One Day International match in Sydney, Kohli scored an unbeaten 74 runs. Rohit Sharma also delivered an unbeaten 121 runs.
Their combined 168-run partnership secured a nine-wicket victory for India.
