Barcelona’s Summer of Silence: No Signings Yet
As the countdown begins for Barcelona’s return to work, the team is still without any new signings for the 2024-25 season. This is a departure from the norm, as in the three previous summer markets, fans had already seen some new additions to the team by this point.
Laporta’s First Summer
In his first summer at the helm of the club, in March 2021, Laporta won the elections with 54.28 percent of the Barça members who went to the polls. That first summer, there were already many movements at all levels.
A Look Back at Previous Summers
In summer 2021, Laporta had acquired all the rights to Emerson Royal (for nine million euros) and had signed and presented Kun Aguero, who arrived free at the club. A day later, Eric Garcia also arrived at zero cost. On June 19, it was the turn for Memphis Depay, who became the fourth signing of the summer for Barça.
In summer 2022, Pablo Torre signed his contract with Barcelona. Initially, the club announced that he would have a reserve team card, but he would be involved in the first team dynamic. The following additions had to wait until July 4, when Kessie and Christensen arrived, the first from Milan and the second from Chelsea.
In 2023, fans of Barcelona already knew a couple of new faces by this time. Gündogan signed on June 26, and Inigo Martinez did the same thing exactly a year ago, on July 5. Then, they had to wait until the 29th for the announcement of Oriol Romeu.
A Summer of Silence
This summer, however, the Barça fans have not yet received any official announcement. Beyond the coach, the Barcelona has not signed any new faces for the 2024-25 season, and next week the team will begin its summer preparations, although with many international players still competing in tournaments.
It’s the summer most don’t worry of Laporta since his second term began. And everything indicates that the first incorporation, barring a surprise, will not occur imminently. Therefore, the followers of Barcelona will still have to be patient.
