Filmmaker Sudipto Sen has shared his thoughts after “The Kerala Story” received two awards. The 71st National Film Awards recently announced their winners. Sen’s reactions were quite surprising to many.
The film, directed by Sen, won two big awards. These included Best Director and Best Cinematography. Even with these honors, Sen did not seem fully happy. He openly stated that his film deserved more awards.
Adah Sharma Deserved an Award
Sen spoke to Hindustan Times about the National Award wins. He mentioned being surprised by the recognition. He really hoped his technical team would get credit. When a movie is still discussed two years after it came out, he believes it means the technical work was excellent.
His Director of Photography did get an award. However, Sen wished others had been honored too. He would have been happier if his writer, makeup artist, and actress Adah Sharma had also received awards. He felt a bit sad that they did not.
Years of Hard Work Honored
Sen also shared his personal feelings about winning the top directing award. He said it was a huge honor. He comes from a humble background and struggled for 20 to 25 years in the film industry. Getting such a high honor for directing was truly overwhelming for him.
About ‘The Kerala Story’
“The Kerala Story” was released in 2023. It did very well at the box office. The movie tells the story of a group of girls who are victims of attempted religious conversion. This story is based on true events. Despite protests, many people watched and appreciated the film.
