Subhash Ghai Predicted Dilwale’s Failure with Ajay, Raveena

The romantic action film “Dilwale” was a massive hit in 1994, starring Ajay Devgn, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, and Paresh Rawal. But what’s lesser-known is that Raveena was not the first choice for her role – it was initially offered to Divya Bharti, who passed away suddenly. This led to some changes in the film.

Now, over three decades later, the film’s writer, Karan Rajdan, has shared some surprising stories about the film’s cast. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Karan revealed that when he had shot about eight percent of the film, he decided to show it to filmmaker Subhash Ghai. But what Subhash said left Karan stunned.

Subhash Ghai Thought “Dilwale” Would Flop

Subhash Ghai told Karan, “If you want to cry, cry now because you’ll be crying on the day of the film’s release anyway.” When Karan asked why, Subhash questioned him about his dissatisfaction with Ajay Devgn, saying that Ajay couldn’t be portrayed as a madman. He also mentioned that Raveena had given around 12 flop films and that people would tease him, saying that the 13th one would be his.

Shah Rukh Khan Was the First Choice for Ajay Devgn’s Role

The film “Dilwale” starring Ajay Devgn and Raveena Tandon won the hearts of the audience. However, Karan Rajdan initially wanted Shah Rukh Khan for the film. In the same interview, Karan revealed why Shah Rukh didn’t do the film. The writer disclosed, “The role I gave to Ajay Devgn in ‘Dilwale’ was originally written for Shah Rukh Khan. I went to his house to narrate the story, and he liked the script. He just said, ‘Karan, the heroine should go with the other guy in the end.’ I refused to change the ending of my film, and he decided not to do the film.”
