Teacher’s Day rolled around, and like many, Bollywood’s famous filmmaker Subhash Ghai paused to honor his mentors. But his tribute wasn’t for a traditional school teacher. Instead, Ghai shared a heartfelt message for someone he called his friend and guru: Osho. This isn’t a typical celebrity shout-out. Ghai’s connection to the philosopher runs deep, revealing a surprising influence on the creative mind of the ‘Showman’ himself.
Ghai poured his feelings onto Instagram, posting a picture of Osho. He revealed that Osho’s insights have shaped his thinking for four decades. In his touching caption, Ghai described Osho as “My close friend and my guru.” He added that Osho has “entertained me daily for the last 40 years with all kinds of philosophies of life, people, energies, and the truth hidden behind truth.” Ghai also shared one of Osho’s famous lines: “Listen to me, but don’t follow me. Just be a witness yourself.” He then wished everyone a “Happy Teacher’s Day.” Ghai closed his note with a hopeful thought, “Osho will build India with a new stream of ideas with clarity. I feel this today.”
A Showman’s Legacy
Subhash Ghai himself holds a legendary place in Bollywood. He’s a celebrated director, producer, and screenwriter. His work truly shined in the 1980s and 1990s. Many of the biggest hits from those decades came from his vision. Ghai actually started his journey as an actor. But he soon found his true calling behind the camera, making his directing debut with ‘Kalicharan.’ This path earned him the nickname ‘Showman’ in the industry. His blockbuster films are etched in cinema history. Think of movies like ‘Karz,’ ‘Hero,’ ‘Karma,’ ‘Ram Lakhan,’ ‘Pardes,’ and ‘Taal.’ Beyond filmmaking, Ghai built an empire. He founded Mukta Arts in 1982. He also started a film school called Whistling Woods International.
