Riots broke out over the death of a Dalit student by a school teacher in India.
According to Indian media, a 15-year-old Dalit student was killed by the torture of a high-caste Hindu teacher in Oriya district of Uttar Pradesh. The teacher tortured the student for writing wrong answers in the test.
Protesting against the incident, the angry people set fire to two police vehicles and pelted stones at the police.
The family of the slain child has alleged that the child was beaten to death with a stick by his school teacher due to some mistake.
Police say that the family of the slain child has filed a complaint against the teacher, while an autopsy is being conducted to find out the cause of the boy’s death.
The police say that the teacher involved in the incident has escaped and they are trying to find him.
It should be noted that the lower caste Dalit Hindus in India often face inhumane treatment and violence from the upper caste Hindus and these incidents are increasing rapidly.
Crimes against Dalits across India saw a 9.4 percent increase in 2020 compared to 2019.
According to the Crime Records Bureau of India, in 2019, there were 45,961 cases of crimes against Dalits, while in 2020, these cases increased to 50,291.
