Stree 2: The Sequel to the Horror-Comedy Film is Ready to Scare Audiences Again
The sequel to the 2018 film "Stree", which combined horror and comedy, is all set to entertain audiences once again. The trailer of "Stree 2" has been released, featuring the gang of Rajkumar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Pankaj Tripathi in a new battle against a ghostly entity. The name of this ghostly chapter is "Sarkate Ka Aatank".
The Horror Universe Expands
Producer Dinesh Vijan’s horror universe, which started with "Stree", now has five films – "Stree", "Roohi", "Bhediya", "Munjya", and "Stree 2". These five films feature five different supernatural powers, all rooted in Indian folk culture. The horror universe has been inspired by real-life ghost stories, which are often shrouded in mystery and fear.
Folklore and Real-Life Ghost Stories
The film "Stree" was inspired by the folk tale of "Naale Ba", a witch who appears in search of her husband at night and calls out to men in the voice of their wife or mother. The story of "Roohi" was inspired by the legend of "Mudiya-Pari", a witch who enters the body of girls who are about to get married. The film "Bhediya" was inspired by the story of "Yapam", a wolf who protects the forest.
Munjya-Munjya: A Folk Tale
In Indian culture, the Upanayan ceremony is considered the beginning of a man’s student life. The ceremony is called Munj or Munja in Marathi and Konkan region. In Marathi folklore, there is a mention of a spirit ghost who dies after Munj and before Sodmunj, i.e. marriage. This ghost lives on Peepal trees and is called "Munjya". The film "Munjya" was inspired by this folk tale.
Woman 2- Manakapya: The Sarkate Pret
The Sarkate Pret seen in the sequel of "Stree" is also mentioned in many folktales. In Girgaon, Mumbai, there is a place named Khotachiwadi, where stories of Sarkate Pret are found, which is called "Mankapya". In these stories, a Sarkate Pret is said to prey on people who walk alone at night.
The Social Message
In a good horror story, the cure for a social evil is shown by showing the fear of ghosts. And any horror film impresses the public as much as its social message. The film "Stree" made no mistake in delivering this message with strong comedy. Now it remains to be seen whether "Stree 2", releasing on August 15, is able to repeat the same feat or not.
