Stars sign Neftalí Féliz as a free agent

The Stars signed free agent reliever Neftalí Féliz, their general manager, Manny García, announced through a club press release.

Féliz was one of the players who became a free agent on February 15, in the Dominican League, under the most recent labor agreement between it and the National Federation of Professional Baseball Players.

The experienced pitcher worked for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the three most recent seasons, including last, and since 2020.

In 2022, Féliz saved 5 games in the Regular Series, in 12 games in that stage of the Dominican championship. He then pitched in 4 other games, in the Round Robin. He didn’t save game at that stage.

His earned run averages allowed were 3.46, in the last Regular Series; and 2.45, in the past Round Robin.

“Feliz saved 21 games in the past three seasons,” Garcia observed. “He brings experience, experience, to a young bullpen. And above all, leadership.

The 34-year-old pitcher and former winner of the Rookie of the Year award (2010) in the American League, has pitched in the Dominican League with Toros del Este, Leones del Escogido and Águilas, in a total of 65 Regular Series games, 5 of them as a starter, his original role, before being converted to a reliever.

His lifetime record in the Dominican League is 5-3, with 21 games saved and a 2.79 earned run average allowed, in the Regular Series.

All told, including the postseason, the right-hander has pitched in 80 games. He is 5-4 with a 3.15 ERA and 26 saves.

Féliz will join an All-Star bullpen that has been among the best in the Dominican League in recent years.
