Stars sign left-handed reliever Jakob Hernandez

The Stars hired the services of the North American reliever Jakob Hernández, to share the closing tasks of the club with Wirfin Obispo, announced the general manager of the representative Petromacorisano, Félix Peguero.

Hernández is a 26-year-old left-handed pitcher who currently works for the Triple A team of the Philadelphia Phillies (Lehigh Valley), with which he has 67 strikeouts in 47.0 innings. He has given up 18 walks. The opposition is hitting .218 against him. He is 3-1 with 6 saves in 8 chances. His earned run average is 4.40.

Peguero explained that Hernández can be used as a situation pitcher and as a closer, in the first case against left-handed hitters, with opposing runners in circulation. Lefties are batting .186 against him this year, in 25.1 innings. Righties are hitting .250 against him in 21.0 innings.

The team will be reported in the coming weeks, before the start of the tournament, which will begin on October 15.

The Stars will begin training next Monday, September 26, at the Baltimore Orioles complex in Baseball City (Boca Chica).

Hernández is the third import announced by the Stars for next season. Earlier they announced Major League outfielder Edward Olivares (Kansas City) and first baseman Steven Horwitz (AAA, Toronto Blue Jays).
