Stars seek today against the Eagles their pass to the Final Series

The Stars are seeking this Saturday their pass to the Final Series of the local professional baseball tournament, dedicated to the memory of their late director Don Kalil Haché Malkum, in which the Banreservas Cup is played.

The Stars will face today (7:30 pm) the discarded Águilas Cibaeñas, at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium, where they will have right-hander Rony García as their starting pitcher.

A victory for the Stars and one today for the Gigantes del Cibao against the Tigres del Licey, would give the two winning teams of the day a pass to the Final Series.

If so, Estrellas would be considered the first-place team in the current Round Robin, despite having the same record as the Giants (10-6) after tonight’s game.

That consideration, of Estrellas as the first-place team, is due to the fact that the team based in San Pedro de Macorís has a 3-2 advantage in the particular series with the team from San Francisco de Macorís (Gigantes).

With favorable results for Stars and Giants this Saturday, the Round Robin would conclude and the Final Series (7-4) would begin next Monday at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium.

Garcia trump card

Garcia represents something of a trump card for the Stars, who have won all four games the right-hander has started, including his three Round Robin games, against Gigantes, Águilas and Licey, in that order.

In his start against the Eagles, on January 5, Garcia pitched 5.0 scoreless innings of two hits and scored the victory.

His most recent start was against Licey, on January 10, when he had 4.0 innings of a run, with five hits allowed. That match was interrupted in its celebration due to rain.

The Stars have a string of six wins in a row, the longest in the championship. They have scored 27 runs in Garcia’s 3 Round Robin starts and have allowed 6 laps to his rivals.
