Stars outperform Giants 10-3

A five-run rally in the seventh inning helped the Estrellas Orientales defeat the Gigantes del Cibao 10-3.

The rivals who faced each other last season in the final met for the first time this Saturday in the recently started tournament of the Dominican Baseball League.

Giants starter Pedro Fernandez (1-1, 4:15) finished with 3 2/3 innings, seven hits, four earned runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

For Stars, Phillips Valdez (0-0, 1.13), completed innings of five hits, one earned run and two strikeouts. The winner was Daiyeson Arias (1-0.0.00).

In the second inning, Seuly Matías hit the Giants’ first-run RBI single.

José Tena doubled with two on board and the Estrellas Orientales went ahead 2-1 in the third inning.

The action continued in the fourth with right fielder Luke Williams’ 3-pointer driving in the third round.

In the same inning, Sandber Pimentel with a sacrifice fly placed the game 4-1, in favor of the Greens.

Kelvin Gutiérrez , with the bases loaded , grounded into the infield driving in two more to close the fourth inning with a score of 4-3. Junior Lake pushed in the next round for the Orientals in the fifth inning 5-3.

A 5-run rally by the green team came in the seventh inning, Chadwick Tromp doubled in the first, Luke Williams singled in two, Sandber Pimentel and Rodolfo contributed two more to seal the score 10-3.

The Giants return home this Sunday and will face Estrellas again, but in San Francisco de Macorís at four in the afternoon.

The 69th Lidom championship, in which the Banreservas Cup is played, has a dedication to the late chronicler, Don Tomás Troncoso Cuesta, one of the main commentators that Dominican baseball has had throughout its history.
