Breaking Silence: Umesh Yadav Speaks on Not Being Sold in IPL 2025 Auction
Indian pace bowler Umesh Yadav finally broke his silence on not being sold in the IPL 2025 auction that took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Yadav, who has had an illustrious career with the Indian team, shared his thoughts and feelings on being overlooked in the bidding process.
Yadav’s Initial Reaction
Speaking to Inside Sport, Yadav expressed his shock and disappointment at not being picked by any team. “It’s still sinking in that I wasn’t bought in the auction. Having played the game for 15 years and completed around 150 IPL matches, it feels terrible to not have found a buyer,” Yadav said. He also acknowledged that the strategies employed by the franchises can be unpredictable, and perhaps, he might have been overlooked due to timing or budget constraints.
Disappointment but No Regrets
Yadav accepted that the decision ultimately lies with the franchises, and he has to respect that. He expressed his disappointment but emphasized that he can’t change the course of events now. “All I can do is focus on my performance and try to make a comeback in the future,” he said.
A Glimpse into Yadav’s IPL Career
Throughout his IPL journey, Yadav has had the opportunity to play for four teams: Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Gujarat Titans. He has claimed 144 wickets in 148 matches at a respectable average of 29.97. Yadav has had most success with Kolkata Knight Riders, taking 65 wickets, while he has also claimed 28 wickets for Royal Challengers Bangalore, 43 for Delhi Capitals, and 8 wickets for Gujarat Titans.
Yadav’s International Achievements
Internationally, Yadav has been an impressive performer for the Indian team. He has picked up 288 wickets in 141 matches across formats, with 170 of those coming in 57 Test matches at an average of 30.95. Yadav has also taken 106 wickets in 75 ODI matches at an average of 33.63, and 12 wickets in 9 T20 International matches at an average of 23.33.
